Treasurer Report, John Gerrard

  1. Digital copies of accounts are available upon request.

Accounts are in a very healthy state, in fact the best they have ever been. The introduction of sponsorships and an annual bonus from Skipton Building Society has attributed to this.

John closed his report by stating the account as always is in good order.

Competition Secretary Report and Secretary Report combined

  1. A very interesting season has been had with lessons learned and new technology being adopted for the good of the league, not least so the new website which I think we can all agree has made everything so much easier. A massive thanks to Phil Brown for not only all the work he has done with the website but the efforts put into the live streaming of competition finals which went extremely well and heighted the profile of the league immensely, this I would like to add has been done at his own expense. Also, a big thank you to Mark Jones and Nathan Moffatt for all they have done throughout the season.

A very closely fought season as always and I’d like to congratulate Chaukees for winning.

I would like to thank Well Polished, Upton Legion, Chaukees and St. Werburghs for the support in the form of sponsorships. Confirmation for sponsorships for this season is already at £350 which highlights Johns points that the accounts are in a very healthy state.

Competitions ran smoothly with no issues, thanks to all who helped with the refereeing of finals. It has been noted that it’s the same people taking on these responsibilities so it would be appreciated if a few more got involved with this please.

The Presentation night I feel went very well with the speed snooker competition being won by Kev Maxwell. Thanks again to Phil Brown for the organization.

Thanks also to Maria-Bea for supplying a great buffet and to Upton Legion for hosting.

I would like to mention and give thanks to John Gerrard, who despite having a rough year with his health has always been there when called upon.

Proposals

  1. 1.

Proposal by Eddie Jenkins to reintroduce a high break trophy to the league and for this to be incorporated into the website to be updated weekly.

Following confirmation by Phil that this could be incorporated into the website a vote was carried unanimously in favour.

  2. 2.

Proposal by Mark Jones to play all team cup competitions in the same format throughout, that format being league style.

Following discussion and agreeing that in the case of a neutral venue a simple coin toss to determine the ‘home team’ is made, A vote was carried unanimously in favour.

  3. 3.

Proposal by Colin Hughes to re evaluate the miss rule.

After lengthy discussion it was agreed to continue as is, however remind referees of the following:

    • A miss does NOT have to be automatically called if they feel a justified attempt has been made.
    • Determine that the object ball can clearly be seen.

In the event that a referee may have difficulty judging the situation that he call upon both captains for clarification and NOT other players.

  4. 4.

Proposal by Colin Hughes to re introduce a full dress code for finals.

Following a discussion a vote was carried unanimously against.

N.B. It was agreed that due to the present rules being stretched on occasion a rewording of the present dress code rule be discussed and amended by committee.

  5. 5.

Proposal by Nathan Moffatt to remind everyone that it was agreed at the last AGM that ALL teams take a share of refereeing responsibilities in finals.

Discussions were had and again agreed that it was unfair that this should fall to the ‘usual few’ and that all team members should take a share.

  6. 6.

Proposal by Kevin Harris that the competition secretary honorarium of £100 be split between Mark Jones and Phil Brown.

A vote was carried unanimously in favour.

  7. 7.

Proposal by Kev Harris that the agreed decision at last year’s AGM to increase player registration fees from £3 to £5 be deferred. Furthermore, the usual fee of £10 per team for team competitions also to be deferred. This is to recognise the current state of league finances.

A vote was carried unanimously in favour.

  8. 8.

Proposal by John Fergus that when a player has to play again due to short numbers, where necessary the player will be subject to a 15 point handicap reduction regardless of whether this breaks the capped maximum handicap start of 50.

A vote was carried unanimously in favour.

Any other business

  1. The idea of presenting a trophy to the winner of the presentation speed snooker competition was discussed and agreed on. This will be carried forward for next year’s competition.

Captains to be reminded that it is an obligation to inform the opposing captain if they are short on players and that where necessary ALL players are to be available to play again if picked and not leave the venue early.

  2. Etiquette in match play

All players to be reminded that as per the rules, in no circumstances is practice to take place when a match frame is still in progress.

If a frame is taking longer than usual another frame can be started only if both captains agree, this is to be done in a respectful manner for the ongoing frame.

Tables to be prepared and ready for matches to start at 7.30pm prompt.

It was agreed that when organising competitions, as and when possible round deadlines will coincide with handicap block changes. Please note this not a guarantee.

If in doubt, ask the secretary.
